The MBP has just had an upgrade with multi-touch. i really want to get a 2.5 15in but i think a new design is going to be released this fall.... maybe with an optional blu-ray drive, cause there were rumors about a new design being released early in 08. turns out its only 45nm design and multi-touch. i really dont need one at the moment but im tired of my slow 1.5 12in power book. should i wait or just go get one?

As many will tell you, if you need it, get it now.

But to me, it seems like you don't; say I'd wait.

Montevina is a completely new chip design that may or may not require a redesign. However, considering just how long the design of the Macbook Pros/Powerbooks has been around, I don't think Apple will try and fit the new chipset in the current design if it doesn't just naturally fit - they'll just go for a redesign.

Another clue is the fact that they added Multi-Touch. When the MBA got it, a big deal was made out of the fact that it has a extra large trackpad to accommodate this. The MBP's trackpad stayed the same size. This may be an indication that a bigger trackpad is on the way, it an upcoming redesign.
