I have an airport express with my MBP in my dorm but it keeps disappearing from my airport utility. Once in a while i can find it but then i can't find it again until i hard reset. I am using it for its wifi printer and audio uses and not for internet. What can be the problem? Thanks.

I had the same problem with my girlfriend's AE. Her problem was interference with the signal. I had to test every channel to find one that worked. Her apartment is probably like your dorm and has 20 wifi signals within range. Just try every channel and turn on interference robustness in wireless options.

Let us know!

I turned on the robustness option but it keeps disappearing. The only way i can find it is if i hard reset it.

I'm having what sounds like the exact same problem. Now the only thing is, mine has gotten worse and worse each day to the point where my Airport would only show for literally 1.5-2 seconds after i reboot my computer. So how am I supposed to change the frequency then?

Ditto...

Same issue here, except mine is also connected to my Blue-ray player; took me hours to achieve connectivity only to have it disappear again.
WTF?

mine only works fine with iMac, AppleTV and 2 iphones, Airport Express connected to Xerox DocuPrint 203A and audio line out connected to speaker for AirTunes (both works really well).

the only problem is browsing internet from Alu macbook is really slow, but file sharing and iTunes library sharing works fine, i can watch movies from my macbook streamed from iMac HDD.

download speed from iMac can reach up to 90-100Kb/s, AppleTV stream HD video works fine, but download from macbook only up to 8-9Kb/s, mostly only 4-5Kb/s

I'm thinking of buying Airport Extreme but afraid it will have this same weird effect

One of the biggest issues I had was my laptop always connected to a linksys router, and recently I moved and bought my own router with a completely different name, however, there is a linksys network available in my complex so my laptop tries to default to it.

If you open System Preferences > Network > Airport then click Advanced...

you can erase or change which network to connect to always!
