HI
I have a G4 AGP Graphics mac. The problem I have is that it freezes at either start up, on the blue screen, sometimes 10 minutes in to using it or sometimes it won't even startup. The infrequency of the problem is what i don't understand. I have a 1.2GHz processor upgrade and 2GB of memory installed and i'm running 10.4.11. I have swapped the memory and the processor over to another G4 AGP 'chassis' and still have the same problems which would suggest its the things i brought over. i have also taken out the memory chips one by one and it is still doing it. it looks like it could be the processor as these are the 2 things constant between both the old donor and new G4 machines. would a dodgy processor act erratically ie. Freeze at different points of mac operation? is there anything i might be missing? it has two new hard drives installed and the firmware is correct to support the Giga design processor upgrade.

thanks for any light you can shed on this...

Yes, a dodgy processor could most certainly display the symptoms you've described.

It looks like you've done a pretty good job of narrowing down the problem... One thing you might consider trying is underclocking the CPU to see if it will run more reliably...

Try replacing the cable that connects your hard drive to the motherboard,

sounds like a overheating problem.
