Hi folks,

I have a question regarding the in-store pricing of the 8 and 16gb iPhones.

Online they are priced at $399 and $499, but it states that price is for new activations with the 2-year contract.

But how does this work in-store? Can you simply walk-in and buy an iphone at the listed prices above? I thought all the account setup and what not is done on your home computer.

Main reason I'm wondering is I'm looking at prices on ebay (I have a $300 ebay coupon to use), and seeing phone selling for above the retail price.

Is this because you can buy the phone without that contract? Most are listed as "unlocked", or is just people on ebay trying to make a buck (or a combination).

I'm planning on using it with T-Mobile since I get better coverage in my office complex compared to AT&T.

So basically, I guess I'm just trying to figure where that required contract comes into play to get that $399/$499 price. Where are you locked into that? The Apple Store at purchase or when you sign-up for a plan online after you buy the phone?

Thanks!

Prices are $399 and $499 in-store and the online store. Neither of these require to sign a contract, you can do this at your home in iTunes.

As of the eBay iPhones. iPhones bought in store are locked to the AT&T network, those phones you see on eBay are unlocked with hacked software, so you can use them on T-Mobile.

You can do this easy yourself though and save the money, just take a look on the iPhone hack forums here.

Best of luck!
