IDE tags with itunes for dj'ing

A few of my friends who are dj's use itunes to do thier IDE tags (or whatever its called). What i'm wondering is we use .wav files not mp3 so when we import the .wav files into itunes doesnt it make them into some crappy quality mp3? I heard itunes music quality isn't good....

i think its possible to set itunes to rip your cd at what ever quality u want it as. im sure wav is one of the formats.
