I think I'm having issues with my 2 month old 15" MBP Penryn laptop. I say this because my battery health monitor is telling me my original capacity was at like 5600mAh and now I'm down to like 5200mAh. I've done the whole disable hibernation thing and whatnot to condition the battery like Apple recommends.

so I want to ask the people who own this same laptop what kind of runtimes do you get on a fully charged battery? I'm getting about 3.5 hours with the screen brightness at 100% while running Firefox and playing a DVD. (I don't like my screen dimming at all.)

I'm just wondering if the drop in battery health and if my current battery runtimes are normal for a laptop this young? I've already lost 400mAh in battery capacity and I don't think that's normal.

So please post what your runtimes are with this same exact laptop with the screen at 100%.

For me that sounds pretty darn good. My last gen (C2D from last May) gave me around 3.5 hours with the screen dimmed and no DVD playing...

My new one (same as yours) I havent tested so much but so far when I go 'off cable' the battery has yet to run out on me so I don't even know how long it is lasting (I guess I am getting closer to 4 hours, but I dim my screen a notch or two when I come off the power)

I will install cocoa battery later and check...

i call total bs on that

ZOMG !!!!11111

Thats completely normal. Batteries never last as long as manufacturers state. Every laptop loses power in the battery similar to what you stated.

here is where I am:

At the risk of provoking further trolling, note how old it says my computer is (8 weeks)

24.449 months? Is this Jesus' macbook pro?

Jost joking, but to the op, I guess that's a perfect example how every coconut battery or similar apps result should be taken with a grain of salt.

3,5 hours while watching a dvd at full brightness sounds perfectly ok to me. In the end your warranty runs for one year, so you have plenty of time left to see if it gets worse dramatically.

This is a good point... You might find another time you run it and it gives you much better statistics, it is not 100% consistent.

And bottom line, 3.5 hours on full brightness spinning a DVD is pretty darn good!

Yeah, if you're getting 3.5 hours at full brightness with firefox and dvd then you are ahead of most I'd say. My laptop is currently at 66%, estimated 2:40 remaining, which would mean total charge of 4 hours given my use so far - no dvd, just safari, ichat, MSWord08, and a little Grapher / Preview. That's turned down quite a bit for brightness.

Agreed, you shouldn't be getting too obsessive over slight changes in battery health that a piece of software tells you. If you wouldn't notice anything without the software, it's not worth noticing. Just appreciate the fact that the battery seems to last so long playing a DVD.

I've got the same laptop as you, purchased just after the Penryn update, and this is my information:

Will just have to keep an eye on this to see if it drops any further.

Here is mine purchased right after the Penryn update as well. I have not had it on the road much since I purchased it.

Following my earlier post my MBP is now showing:

iStat Pro has given the same percentages both times as well, don't know what's happening there, but I wont worry about it unless it drops really low.

power consumption really hasn't changed much from SR to penryn...3.5 hours sounds about right.

97% here

I have the new 15" penryn MBP too and have also noticed the battery health is not 100%. It was 99% when I bought it, and now it is 97%. I called Apple and also brought it to the Apple store but they told me it is normal. It also took me a fair amount of effort to make them understand that I was talking about the battery *health* not the battery charge. I am a little concerned because my previous gen MB is 3 mos old and still at 100% health.

Well, it is not "normal", it is a defect. A new battery should hold 5600 mAh as stated, period. That is the spec. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Maybe Apple will offer a fix.

The Original capacity of my 2.4 MPB bought last week is 5500. I wonder why the difference. My Blackbook kept 100% capacity for the entire 5 months I owned it.

i thought coconut battery is not yet compatible with Leopard?? But mine has the health of 95% after 51 cycles.

5600 mah? I thought the max was 5500. Guess they changed it.

Mine only has 4400 as it's a powerbook but I still get about 50 hours of battery life in sleep mode!

Above 100%?

It is interesting that your current battery capacity is actually higher than your original battery capacity.

I saw this same thing on a new 17" mbp in the store. What's up here? Has cocunut got the original value wrong, or are these batteries really overcharging?
