I'm very much interested in all this rendering that goes on now a days. However my interest lies more in the hardware then the creativity with the applications. I've looked at sites like rendercore.com and see their nodes aren't all that impressive anymore. What I'd like to do is built a few (I'd start with one or 2) 3.0ghz 8-core xserves or mac pros with 8-16gb of memory.
My only issues I see so far are connectivity (as I don't have a T1+ connection), and getting interest. I'm not to concerned with colocation or uptime if I only had a few machines running.
I'm sure alot of A/V houses have big workstations but tying one up must be horrible for business. I do know some A/V houses do outsource too. I figure if rendercore survives still, then there must be a demand? An idle 8-core with 8+ gb of memory would be one nice resource to rent for the right price of course.
Thansk for any input.
