Hi,
Sorry for the lengthy post.....

My g/f's iBook is giving me the *****! I replaced the HDD and went to reinstall OSX only to find that the track pad and keyboard would not work in the installer screen and the thing kept going to sleep every few seconds.

I restarted and held down Command-V and that forced it to boot using the text mode, so the keyboard works. I then booted of the OS9 CD and the keyboard and track pad both work but it still goes to sleep every few seconds.

Ready to throw it at a wall, I booted from Ubuntu LiveCD, everything works fine, no sleeping.

I decided to boot into Open Firmware and reset everything, didnt help.

So I plugged in a keyboard and mouse, booted from OSX and installed, having to click the mouse every time it went to sleep to continue installing. This took ages.

once done the computer still goes to sleep all the time and the laptop keyboard and track pad still dont work.

What am I missing???? I just dont get, I even ran a Hardware Test and nothing is wrong, is there a setting I am missing??

Help would be much appreciated.

Ibook G3 600MHz - 12" screen

Since you got a 600mhz you have to hold down 4 keys when you boot up your ibook.
Hold down ":apple:", "Option", "P", "R". It sometimes seems to help to hold it down a few times in a row to force it to restart a few times.

how do you guys still use ibooks, i got a macbook SR and it still a little too slow for me, i mean ibook would probably be an okay word prossessing, email and web machine, otherwise i dont think its any good for a enything else

I tried resetting and it didnt change anything. I installed Ubuntu, which worked during the liveCD, but I get a few errors when it loads GNOME. I will try a different version. I might also try installing OSX and if I can get to the desktop turning off sleep.

Has anyone got any other suggestions, it seems like a really strange problem and is really starting to get to me.

Thanks
