Apple does great job UPGRADING MacBooks. That includes only minor upgrades- new processor, might be bigger hard drive, more memory to video card and some other minor tuning. I thing MacBook Pro is lacking in one feature- user upgradability. 2 things change very frequently- memory and hard drives. You can upgrade memory ($ 400 seems too much for me), but you can hardly upgrade hard drive. Besides seems solid state hard drives are here too for good. So can't Apple make better access to MacBook's Pro Hard drive? I think DVD drive is becoming yet another floppy too. So it would be nice feature if you could have removable DVD drive. Instead you could put either another battery or another hard drive. ExpressCard slot seems pretty much useless too. The only things you could put there is Apple remote (but there is no such size remote), besides you have to pay for regular size remotes now. Other possible candidate is ExpressCard hard drive, but seems speed is prohibitive to use it in real life. Other uses are not worth to bother- all adapters are sticking almost half a mile from MacBook and you risk to bump that every time.
OK, might be just almost an inch, but it still distract you from sleek lines of the laptop. So might be we could get more USB ports instead? USB seems became de facto connection now. More used than anything else.

There are like 20 threads on this stuff!

No memory is cheap; just buy it yourself.

HDD upgrade is very easy.

Notice that all the user upgradeable computers are like 20 lbs and are like 5 inches thick?

No the DVD drive is not another floppy. Also it is removeable, just requires a screwdriver.

Firewire is the future.

I would not agree that HDD upgrade is VERY easy. You have to take apart everything. It is more complicated than on MacBook. There was a post on internet about a guy who changed DVD drive to another hard drive. I think Apple could do without 20 lbs or 5 inches part. It is not that they respond to every persons ideas however. But they have quite impressible engineering team. Just look at MacBook Air.

I think the MacBook pro is "as" upgradeable as it needs to be. HD is easy to upgrade and along with DVD and RAM it yes just requires some unscrewing
