I've had my MBP since July of 2007, and it has been a wonderful machine. However, when I upgraded to Leopard, I began to experience frequent wireless issues. My computer would not be able to connect to the wifi network after it was taken out of sleep mode, and I would have frequent wireless dropouts.

After 10.5.2, however, the sleep problems disappeared, but the frequent dropouts have not gone away. The only way to fix the problem is to turn airport on and off again, and this only works for about 5-10 minutes.

I thought that this was just a problem with the updated OS, but my cousin just purchased a Macbook and his worked fine on with my wifi. No dropouts at all. Also, my other PC's can use the network perfectly fine.

What do you think could be causing these problems? I don't think it is a hardware issue (though never say never) because it worked fine with Tiger. My MBP is still under the one year warranty, so do you think the guys at the genius bar could help me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

you could trash the airport prefs in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. be aware that you then might need to set up your network settings again.

Yeah, I'm thinking that it may be a problem with the wireless card I have in my MBP. I thought that I would just wait for the newest update and see if it's fixed, but when my cousin's worked perfectly, I knew there was something else wrong.

Did you do an upgrade or a clean install. Many upgrades lead to problems.

I upgraded... Maybe I should try a clean install? Has anyone had luck doing this?

Yeah most people I know have fixed their problems with a clean install. I would back up your files (no Time Machine) and reinstall.

Yes, clean install as apparently upgrading leaves two lots of the system resources and confuses 10.5.

(Heard about it on a podcast).

Thanks a bunch guys. I did a clean install and it's like the problem was never even there! I can finally use the internet the way I'm supposed to.
