I'm looking for a second phone. It doesn't have to be practical, but I would like one that would look good in public. I currently have my eye on the Nokia 7380, but it's a little rare and expensive. Anyone have any other suggestions. I'm a T-Mobile user, so it would have to be unlocked GSM.

This Moto is definitely a winner. Small and light with amazing features, the phone of the future.

The greyscale is getting me carried away! My sister had a StarTAC, it was great at the time

iPhone is cool, I have the MotoRAZR and it's very nice as well (but the Verizon interface sucks big time) - albeit common, which may or may not detract from it's coolness.

I think it depends on where you are: I've seen some awesome looking phones out of Europe that we can't get here in the states.

Yeah, I've have a lot of phones...
I'm 21, and here are all of the phones I've owned in my life:

-Samsung E105
-3 Razr V3s
-Motorola A630
-2 iPhones
-Sidekick 3
-2 Sidekick LXs (current phone)
-Samsung T509
-2 Samsung T519s
-Rizr V3
-Samsung Blast T629
-Samsung R225
-Helio Ocean
-Helio Heat
-Helio Kickflip
-Samsung A900
-LG AX8600
-LG Chocolate2

So, as you can see, I'm pretty jaded on phones. Sooo, I just bought a Nokia 7380 on eBay and am looking forward to receiving it.

Holy crap, how do you justify that kind of excess?

you could probably pick up an iclone pretty cheap on ebay...if the iphone interests you. (but your not ready to lay that kind of cash down)

Other than that...I've been looking for a blackberry pearl. You can find them where the scroll ball doesn't work, but that problem is really easy to fix (and not everyone knows that)

Get a Chinese "I-FONE"... It looks like a iPhone, but its different! So its cool! Plus, its about £70!

EDIT: Its the CECT P168 iFone.

I've already had 2 different iPhones, and I have a friend who has the CECT iPhone clone, and it's pretty awful. I'm pretty much a phone whore... I've never had any sony ericsson phones though, I might look into those as well.

aw, man, what's with the being judgmental thing? i mean for all we know this bloke could be going around in army surplus clothes, with a battered old banger for a car (if any, lol), living in a cheap flat and just generally leading quite a modest lifestyle except for spending a lot on phones. Maybe he's just a phone geek, like some people are pen geeks (they have masses of pens because they love having all the different textures to play around with, even though to others a single pen to be replaced when it runs out of ink is more than enough)!

Anyway, OP, I hope you enjoy your new phone! It looks very nice :)

Gee, I wonder what part of the world roisin and mac is from! ;)

Poor OP won't be able to understand a word of that. :p

hehe, oh my gawd, you're right I need to fix that, sometimes I get really idiomatic :p Mind, I just realized I started with 'aw, man' which is stereotypically transatlantic :) Go figure lol. Anyway, wee bit of glossary:

bloke=guy, dude
banger= beaten up old car. The lovely 'Byrne Files © - Dublin Slang Dictionary and Phrase-book' appropriately explains this as an 'old, non-vintage car' :D
flat=apartment

Though I reckon people are rather cleverer at figuring stuff out than we give 'em credit for... I remember a thread discussing Harry Potter books in another forum I hang out at, and the people Stateside who got the Scholastic edition where the language had been 'fixed' to reduce the idiomatic expressions were really bummed, they were like, 'what, do they think we're stupid?! it's plain english!!' I think they stopped changing it later, not sure :)

By the way killmoms, you have names for your machines? that's interesting! how did you come up with them?

Haha, I was just busting your chops. I love me some UK-isms.

Not just names for my machines, but names for my hard drives as well. My latest machine and hard drives are named after characters from Gunslinger Girl. Before that (Velocity, my Mac Pro) had hard drives named after Haibane Renmei characters. And before THAT, I was choosing Japanese names based on meaning. Totally off topic though, apologies to the OP for this diversion.

Yeah, the retro look. Amazing that is only about 10 years old, right, and we're calling that retro! That's a kick ass phone, btw.

You know, I've never understood the whole "trendy cell phone" thing. Maybe when they first came out. "Psst. Hey. Check out that guy! Dude! He's got one of those new mobile phones! Holy cow!"

Now, you get a cool phone and you have just a few weeks to be the guy that gets the attention ("Dude! Is that the new ____ phone? Whoa! Cool, man!") before anyone with a bit of cash can pick up exactly the same thing and be just as cool as you. Which means you need to ditch the phone ASAP before all the "losers" get it, and get yourself the NEXT new thing, and before you know it you've run through a dozen different phones in a vain attempt to stay "cool".

Come to think of it, this does seem to describe... eh, nevermind.

I want a phone that works. Good battery life, good reception, good quality. I don't care if it looks amazingly stylish, because nobody will see me using it. What people see will be covered mostly by my hand on one side and my face on the other. I don't go waving it around in public going "ooooh, look at me and my cool new phone that makes me think I'm better than all of you". It's so ridiculously shallow.

But hey, to each his own. :)

Heh, I like 'busting your chops'! Funny expression.

I like the names for your machines! So you have a common thread that they're all from manga right? What I know about manga would probably fit on the back of a postage stamp, but I looked up gunslinger girls (wikipedia! heh), and I must day it seems well-suited--the articles says each girl character has implants 'which consist of synthesized muscles and carbon fiber frames, result in heightened strength and reflexes as well as high resilience to damage and pain'--you deffo want your computers and hard drives to have that! Then it says each is brainwashed into having ' unquestioning loyalty to her handler'. Bit like being admin on your system--it answers to you and you alone! Very fitting.:)

I have a name for my computer too--the problem is, it's my admin password, so I can't say it without having to change it, and that's a pain ;cause I can't think of another! ah well.

Haha! I love the retro look! :D

I'm with you there, I don't see the point of trendy cellphones either, much. But then again, I don't do trendy altogether; I kind of figured out at some point it was an endless race to keep up and have the latest and greatest, and that for me at least, life's too short to take part in it. Plus, like you said, the standing out bit is pretty short-lived; someone will have the latest too, and pretty soon. If you wanna stand out, it's a much better deal to just march to your own drummer and do things because they inherently appeal to you. I've seen people argue that following trends is stupid, or even sometimes it sounds like they're saying it's immoral! But I don't agree with that much; to me it's more that not doing is more conducive to having peace of mind :)

that said, if I had as many phones as the OP... well, I have about as many pairs of shoes as he does (fewer actually, but anyway, it's the only things I own enough of the same to compare lol). And I certainly have some desperately trendy-looking ones, because sometimes trendy things are things I've been looking to get for years and couldn't find, so when they're everywhere, I take advantage of that and go get them ;) So I reckon it's kind of the same, isn't it?

'Come to think of it, this does seem to describe... eh, nevermind.' Can you spell it out for me please? I think I'm really thick about this, but I don't get it!! I have some idea, but I'm not sure, and I hate not getting it :)

You want a 905 series phone from NTT DoCoMo in Japan. Nothing gets more stylish than them, but they cost somewheres around $600 not including the special chip you put on your SIM to make it work on international networks.
