Haha, I was just busting your chops. I love me some UK-isms.
Not just names for my machines, but names for my hard drives as well. My latest machine and hard drives are named after characters from Gunslinger Girl. Before that (Velocity, my Mac Pro) had hard drives named after Haibane Renmei characters. And before THAT, I was choosing Japanese names based on meaning. Totally off topic though, apologies to the OP for this diversion.
Heh, I like 'busting your chops'! Funny expression.
I like the names for your machines! So you have a common thread that they're all from manga right? What I know about manga would probably fit on the back of a postage stamp, but I looked up gunslinger girls (wikipedia! heh), and I must day it seems well-suited--the articles says each girl character has implants 'which consist of synthesized muscles and carbon fiber frames, result in heightened strength and reflexes as well as high resilience to damage and pain'--you deffo want your computers and hard drives to have that! Then it says each is brainwashed into having ' unquestioning loyalty to her handler'. Bit like being admin on your system--it answers to you and you alone! Very fitting.
I have a name for my computer too--the problem is, it's my admin password, so I can't say it without having to change it, and that's a pain ;cause I can't think of another! ah well.
Haha! I love the retro look!
You know, I've never understood the whole "trendy cell phone" thing. Maybe when they first came out. "Psst. Hey. Check out that guy! Dude! He's got one of those new mobile phones! Holy cow!"
Now, you get a cool phone and you have just a few weeks to be the guy that gets the attention ("Dude! Is that the new ____ phone? Whoa! Cool, man!") before anyone with a bit of cash can pick up exactly the same thing and be just as cool as you. Which means you need to ditch the phone ASAP before all the "losers" get it, and get yourself the NEXT new thing, and before you know it you've run through a dozen different phones in a vain attempt to stay "cool".
Come to think of it, this does seem to describe... eh, nevermind.
I want a phone that works. Good battery life, good reception, good quality. I don't care if it looks amazingly stylish, because nobody will see me using it. What people see will be covered mostly by my hand on one side and my face on the other. I don't go waving it around in public going "ooooh, look at me and my cool new phone that makes me think I'm better than all of you". It's so ridiculously shallow.
But hey, to each his own.
I'm with you there, I don't see the point of trendy cellphones either, much. But then again, I don't do trendy altogether; I kind of figured out at some point it was an endless race to keep up and have the latest and greatest, and that for me at least, life's too short to take part in it. Plus, like you said, the standing out bit is pretty short-lived; someone will have the latest too, and pretty soon. If you wanna stand out, it's a
much better deal to just march to your own drummer and do things because they inherently appeal to
you. I've seen people argue that following trends is stupid, or even sometimes it sounds like they're saying it's immoral! But I don't agree with that much; to me it's more that not doing is more conducive to having peace of mind
that said, if I had as many phones as the OP... well, I have about as many pairs of shoes as he does (fewer actually, but anyway, it's the only things I own enough of the same to compare lol). And I certainly have some desperately trendy-looking ones, because sometimes trendy things are things I've been looking to get for years and couldn't find, so when they're everywhere, I take advantage of that and go get them

So I reckon it's kind of the same, isn't it?
'Come to think of it, this does seem to describe... eh, nevermind.' Can you spell it out for me please? I think I'm really thick about this, but I don't get it!! I have some idea, but I'm not sure, and I hate not getting it
