I currently have a mbp 17" and purchased the marware sportfolio deluxe case for it. I have been wanting to purchase a hard shell case for it, but have read that they have scratched them (speck). Is there any hard shell case out there that will do the job? I always think back to my Moto razor when they first came out. Bought a hard shell case and protected my phone over all, but after removing it, I could see every place the case touched the phone. I am thinking the same with mbp?

Umm...I have a speck. Remember some things:

1. Your case will take some scratches that your machine will not
2. Those users that report the scratches, are people that have gotten dirt in between the case and the machine, you are recommended to clean it

with that said, I would wait for Incases hard case to be released for the Macbook Pro.

thanks thegoldenmackid,

Is there any release date andor info on the incase mpb hard shell release? I just purchased a speck case and am going to return it if incase will have something available soon.

Thats terrible because they run around $50 a pop. So its terrible companies selling all those covers and they do all this damage. What is one to do rather than blowing $50 on something that does whats its suppost to protect from? Is that even legal?

yikes , i just ordered a Speck product and am currently waiting for the UPS dude to show up with it. I hope its not as bad as everyone says. I for sure will clean my new MBP throughly and then place the Speck product on.

Like mention previously , i think people who put the products on , dont clean them well or often.

Hope mine doesnt scratch up =/

I suggest now because those hard cases tend to scratch the MacBook Pro. Used to have one, luckily no scratches but from what I've read, they do. I've got the full shield invisible shield on mine in a sleeve instead.

I've got a Techshell (purchased on this forum).

It's cool, I guess, it doesn't have all the lines and weird Speck designs on the plastic so I thought it was a good deal, it's also a bit more expensive than Specks.

Overall, I give it a 6/10. These things add a noticeable amount of bulk to your laptop IMO, they also take a bit away from the iconic look of your machine.

They don't cause scratches as far as I can see, if anything, they stop them.

They don't contribute to heat either.

Speck cases, to be quite frank are crap for the money, I spent the extra money and got two case mate cases. So far no problems.

Stay away from them the Speck shells if you have a Macbook pro. In my experience, I have returned two shells and both had the same defects, which is the lower right portion of the bottom shell not clipping on properly

go with the incase hard shell. its not out now but will be released early may, late April. Just be extra careful till then.

all i can say is that my bottom speck shell is scratched up. Can't say the same for the actual bottom case of my MBP. :)

Yes, but they were supposed to be released in February!

Agreed, but the Speck shells are way overprice, I'm going to take a guess and say that the Incase ones won't be much cheaper ($30 for an iPhone case, multiply the size difference of the Macbook Pro?). My Speck case has scratches and adds bulk, but I don't understand why people are so concerned with that, it's not as much as my Incase neoprene case. The Speck cases may give one or two small scratches to my Macbook Pro, but you have to assume that any scratches on the case would be on the computer. The case is probably a waste of money if you are going to buy an Incase one the second they come out (like me), however if you put a dent in your lower case or you battery gets a dent ($130 if not with Apple Care), it becomes quickly worth it.

The Speck is somewhat of a hassle taking on and off since you need to be careful not to scratch anything while popping it off.

From personal experience I got a deep scratch on the front because of dirt (once it gets in, it will scratch the case so there's no way to prevent it, not even taking it off and clean it) and I concluded that it does more damage that good is.

that's true, but i scoured the internet and found one on ebay for $36. Still overpriced for what it is, but i've already used it to keep my old 2.33 MBP protected which I sold, and the buyer was surprised at how good the computer looked. Now using it on my new SR MBP.

Ive tried the Invisible shield and the Speck hard case. Im sticking with nothing. Just makes the thing either bulky or feel like crap.

Try to treat the laptop well and youll be fine.

What do you guys think about the Macally "Bookshellpro"

http://www.macally.com/EN/Product/ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=205

I ordered one but I guess they were backordered for a few days. I read some of the reviews on Amazon for the 13" MacBook version and they all seem to be positive. Supposedly the interior of the case is suede and should not scratch the macbook. Pretty good price, but I have not found any reviews for the pro model. Maybe they are still rolling them out?

I just got my speck case for my 15'' MBP today. It's ok. Doesn't add too much bulk. It goes on and comes off pretty easy. The front right clip doesn't completely clear the computer so it's not on the way but is secure. Some of the edges are rough plastic too. Someone bought the case for me so in spite of it's flaws I can't complain. I'm also glad to have something to protect from dings etc.

Did you receive your Bookshellpro yet, and if so, how do you like it? I also ordered one and it should be here soon. Here are some pictures that I found that show how it looks when installed, for any others that are interested:

I actually never ordered one. I cancelled my order when I called them and found out it was backordered for a few days. Please post a review and pics when you have a chance, it looks really interesting. Also, all the 13" reviews I've read are mostly positive.

No problem, I will be glad to do it. I'm most concerned with it interfering with the lid closing completely. I recently purchased their "ProCase" and it does not allow the lid to shut at all.
