Penryn MBP Noise?

Hey guys,

Can anyone here share information on how loud the penryn MBP is? I just purchased one and theres some loud fan whirring on the left hand side of the system. Is this normal heat emanation? It also dulls down a bit if the left side of the track pad is pushed down. Any thoughts would be welcomed.
 
Sounds like the hard drive, maybe?

The HDD is located right below the laft-hand palm rest. I'm not sure if it should be making such noise. Is it always loud? Or just at certain times such as heavy load?

not to steel the thread but when i apply just a little pressure, with my left palm the HD makes a little bit of a sound, almost like its getting pushed against they shell. It is very slight pressure, id say the amount when your laying down typing.

That shouldn't happen considering there is a noticeable gap between the HDD and the palm rest.

It might be that you have a hitachi hard drive - they seem to be noisier than many others. Then you'd be hearing both the fan under the keyboard on the left side, as well as the hdd under the left palmrest....put your ear to it and you'll know!
 
my current MBP (see sig) is just about dead silent unless I'm playing a video intensive game like HL2 on the Windows side.

too bad I couldn't say the same for my previously owned 17" MBP about four months ago. that damn thing made all kinds of noises even at idle.
