I want to change some folder icons in the dock to images I have stored in my pictures directory. Following an earlier thread I copied the image to the clipboard and pasted into the small icon in the top-left corner of the Get Info dialogue box. This has changed the folder icon to a generic JPG placeholder image instead of the copied one. Can anyone tell me why?

im not sure but it does this in Leopard. you used to be able to use your method in Tiger.

open the icon in Preview and then click on the image once to de-select it from the sidebar and copy it. then paste in onto the folder in the get info window.
