Hi,
I know very little about computers and I really need some help.
I bought a g3 ibook off ebay a little while ago. It's running Mac OS 10.2.8, 640MB ram, 900mhz with a combo drive. I wanted to install Tiger on it so I can use my iPod and some other things. I put the disk in, it was recognised and everything. I clicked 'install' and it restarted...but when it went to start installing it said 'This cannot be installed on this computer.'
Is that true? Or is there someway I can do it?

Your best bet may be to get a copy of 10.3. Even if you could manage to hack leopard onto the machine, the experience would be terrible.

Tiger on iBook

I also have an iBook, it came with Mac OSx 10.2 (Jaguar), and I installed Tiger few weeks ago and it's working perfectly fine..I don't know what's the deal with your system, but I'm just saying that Tiger on an iBook is possible. :)

My iBook Specs:
640mb
800Mhz

tru dat, but MadSpirit wasn't asking about Leopard, but rather Tiger :p

A RETAIL copy of Tiger will install & run ok on that machine (been there, done that also, so I know it works). But most of the OEM disks that came with other macs will NOT.....

Tiger should work in your iBook. Are you using a retail Tiger disc or a disc from another computer?

The Tiger disk you want is black, the gray disks are OEM specific for the Mac model they shipped with and will not work on your iBook.

Ah....I see!
The install disk I have is for another mac.
Thank you so much, that was driving me crazy.

By the by, am I able to order the version I need online anywhere? What's the best place?

Also, make sure your system is recognizing the upper ram card, if it isnt, then the system thinks you have less than the minimum of 512mb for tiger.
