Hi, Mac newbie here.
Some of my documents folder icons show a lock symbol. What does this mean, and how can I make them like regular folders?
Thanks.

Is it possible to lock a folder so that a guest cannot even open it without an administrator's password? Can this be done while logged in as the administrator or only as a guest? I ask because I want to keep sensitive information in a folder, but still allow others to use the computer.

The easiest answer to your solution is to turn on 'Guest account'

Go into system preferences, then click 'Accounts'

Click the padlock so it's open (bottom left hand corner) to make changes
(enter admin pwd)
then enable guest account.

Once that's done, password protect your own account so nobody can get at your files ;)
