gmail and iMail

I was setting up my new iMac yesterday and when setting up mail i set it up to get my gmail account.

The problem i had is that it took all the mail out of my folders and put it in my inbox as unread. it also did not import my folders the same way my ipod touch has.

Any tips.

Anyone else using gmail in the mail program.
 
Did you set it up using POP or IMAP? If you used POP that is the problem as it only downloads mail to the inbox. IMAP will keep all of your folders and read/unread tags.
 
did you set it up as a POP account or IMAP account? from what you're saying it kinda sounds like you POPed it. try using IMAP, there's step-by-step instructions on Google where it tells you how to do it and you'll get the folders/labels and what not that you had.
