iPod touch Disappearing Outlook Deleted Items

Most of the historical emails in my Outlook Deleted Items folder are mysteriously being permanently deleted when my Touch is set up with an Exchange Account. If I turn off that email account and use IMAP instead, the deletions do not occur. The deletions seem to happen on shut down, even when the Touch is not connected. Has anyone else experienced this bug and is there a fix? Thanks.
