ive just put my iphone up for auction on ebay figured i should get rid of it before the 3g vers comes out since im gonna definately be investing in the 3g vers! anyone else doing this?

Yea that's a good idea. The price of an original used iPhone could drop. However, you could end up waiting for some time before the new iPhone comes out.

yep i know... id rahter make up the cash right now though before people stop buying the 2g vers or decide they gonna wait for the 3g vers out before they buy one..ive had it since august last year so its lasted ages...i have a company phone right now so my iphone has literally been sat there since my company phone is 3g and the sim wont go into a 2g /2.5 g phone! il miss it deeply though shmucks !

I'm keeping my current one for at least a couple more years since I'm pretty satisfied with the device, even EDGE. Cheers.

better than facing the huge decrease in value when everyone sells their old iPhone for a new one.

yeah thats why ive posted mine on ebay now...had a message saying something to do with limited stock of iphones befoe it let me post it for sale. couldnt do a 1day or 3day auction either:-s

How much do you think you'll be able to sell for? A quick search on eBay for iPhones resulted in nothing but "New Unlocked 8 GB iPhone!" for me - are the used iPhones selling? How does that work as far as the AT&T two-year contract is concerned?

I'm interested in possibly selling mine in preparation for 3G, but I want to avoid all of these potential hassles and also get a decent price.

Even after the 3G comes up (if it comes out), you will still be able to sell an 8GB used iPhone for $200 easy. Big deal, thats pretty good ROI for a year's worth of use. A 4GB may go for even as high as $175 -- everyone wants these damn things.

Furthermore, there are always bonehead buyers out there that would pay more because they aren't nerds like us who read every single tech article stating when the next big thing is coming out.

If your auction ended today for a used 8GB Unlocked iPhone, you would probably get no less than $325. Maybe more.

I am not sure what I am going to do

I love my iPhone and have since I got it the first day they started selling

But, I don't want to buy another phone until my 2 year contract is up

I will just have to see how my finances are at that time

The timing couldn't be better to sell an iPhone on eBay since the more 'solid' rumors of a June release are only beginning to circulate outside of sites like this and more people will begin looking there considering the shortage in Apple stores.

That being said, how much more money will you make selling it now vs. selling it when you have your new iPhone to use in its place? Is the difference really worth not having an iPhone for several months? Not to mention, as much as I agree with MacRumors' educated guess on a June release date, you run the risk of being without an iPhone for more than that.

It's a gamble, a catch 22. You sell it now, you get more money and you're betting on a release sooner than you'll miss your iPhone to the point of throwing things. You sell it later, you lose some money you could have potentially made.

Good luck. :)

No i will use it as my second handset just for Mail and Contacts like a BlackBerry and with my second number, which i will still use for voice business (i like to keep business and home separate) i will keep my entire mailbox stored on it with my huge address book and all my calendar which take up about 5gb.....

I actually just sold mine because it fell down ONCE (and I have it since day 1 in UK) and the screen shattered! I don't feel like paying 160 GBP to have it repaired by Apple when there's a new one coming out in 2-3 months.

I'll be sticking with my current phone. Likely there will be some sacrifice (eg. battery life) to pay for 3G. For the basic on the go surfing I do, 2G is just fine for me. Going to resist having the latest and greatest this time around.

You're gonna feel sooo foolish when June rolls around without an iPhone. What do you do for a living that making $60 more selling it 2 months prematurely?

Jobs: 32GB Iphone, 3G, GPS, Haptic Feedback, OLED, Replaceable Battery, $399 BOOM!

Current iPhone owners: Sad Face, eBay fire sale.

Say you bill is $70 a month.

If you go 3 months without an iphone that's $210 wasted and being fed to AT&T for free.

It's not worth it unless you can make $210 more selling your iphone now, than you would if you sell it over the summer.

I'm not even sure if I'm making any sense on this. Flame me now haha.:(

i guess the huge thing with me was ive been using 3g since before the iphone got released...i work for 3uk and have a staff handset plus i had a contract with them before too so it was a kick in the butt when iphone 2g was released...sexy phone though and for someone thats new to using internet on the phone its a fab device..i love everyting about it apart from bluetooth capabilities, mms, jus lil things that are a standard across all phones but i still love it. to be honest i shippd mine from usa in august 07 and ahave had it since now so im ready to jus use the staff fone till 3g vers comes along =)
