I just purchased a new 40gb :apple:TV and I love it except even with a 160gb hard drive, it will fill up fast.

From my understanding of :apple:TV, it is basically frontrow. The "how organized are your movies" thread and some apple TV modifying made me think, is it possible to put Itunes on the :apple:TV?

Why? A lot of people are syncing and streaming over their network. Right now all I have is a macbook with limited space. Reading at awkwardforums, you can use an external hard drive and let the :apple:TV read it with your media.

With iTunes inside the :apple:TV it would be the same without streaming. Also with that in mind, figure out some way to get metaX on there.

I started thinking about his after I started encoding some mkvs. The video played fine in iTunes, but it was "laggy" playing on the :apple:TV. Any thoughts on this or am I just crazy:eek:

The thought also originated from: http://forum.awkwardtv.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=632

I mainly want the metaX feature but make it work with a 500gb external attached to the tv

why is it a last resort? it sounds exactly like what your after, plus you get a dvd player. if you do it check out remote buddy, a handy media center application.

its a last resort because I have to purchase a Mac Mini. I already have an external and for some reason, when I use NitoTV, I do not get any weird fps issues with my videos.

I guess I'm not following why you'd go with a 24" iMac over a mac mini to use the Apple TV? ($1000+ savings)

Sorry, I was a little bit confused also.

Yes, the ideal solution would be a mac mini with an external although in the future I would rather purchase an iMac for video, photo editing, Apple TV etc instead of buying a mac mini just for the apple TV.

But that still requires me to stream the media.

I did see ATV and it does look cool.
