Wow. This stinks!

My doggy had it, he ironically caught it at the quarantine
had horrible cough, sounded like he was going to cough up lung but after two weeks he was back to normal.
he was lucky that he did not progress to pneumonia.

My dog has not experienced this, but when my Dog had a problem I went to Yahoo Answers, and I got plenty of responses

"Kennel cough" is the doggie version of... a chest cold.

The vet will *officially* confirm your dog's cough as "kennel cough" the same way the pediatrician will *officially* confirm my kid's cough as "a cold."

Coughing? Recently around many other dogs, such as at a pet store/kennel/groomer? Heart/lungs otherwise sound normal to your vet? Yep, I think your dog's got a cold... er, I mean kennel cough.

It is a good idea to take your pup to the vet to make sure nothing more serious is going on. If the kennel cough is bad enough, your vet will probably prescribe antibiotics. If left untreated, bad cases can progress to pneumonia, just like with bad chest colds in humans.

The few cases of kennel cough that I see progress to pneumonia are usually in puppies recently purchased from a pet store. Nasty, irresponsible, disease-laden places selling weak, scrawny things from puppy mills (another soapbox for another time).

And for goodness sake, if you insist on looking to Yahoo for medical advice, just make sure you take it with a healthy dose of skepticism. Yahoo does not have a medical degree, and who knows who's writing their "Yahoo Answers."

Take him/her to the vet. It should be cleared up in a day or two. I had it happen to my first dog. (I just lapsed on his immunization and had to board him for a week due to a family emergency.) It's not a big deal. Just get them immunized for it in case you need to board them.
