Shortcuts...?

Hi,

I purchased my first MacBook in January. I went for the 2.2Ghz C2D, 4GB Crucial Ram etc. Loving it and can't recommend them highly enough to friends and family! It works flawlessly with my iPhone and i'm getting a AEBS in May too :)

My question is this; In Windows when in a web browser, i can press alt + D and it'll highlight the address bar which is brilliant. I can also type 'google' and press ctrl + enter and it'll add 'www.' and '.com' to the beginning and end of it, so i get 'www.google.com' for example.

Is there anyway of doing both of these in OSX, as i used to use them so much as it was nice and easy, fast to get things done?

These are browser-specific features, not Windows-specific features - therefore, it depends on which browser you are using, exactly how you do these things (or if you can do them at all).
 
You can press Command-L to highlight the address bar in Mac OS X. For the second issue, I think it depends on which browser you use - in Safari I can just type in a keyword and it will automatically connect to the .com address.
 
As mentioned above, these are browser-specific features.

In Safari, Cmd + L highlights the URL bar. You can just type "google" and hit enter and it will automatically add www.(...).com. Also, Cmd + Option + F highlights the google search bar, to search google. Cmd + Enter will open the search or the website in your URL bar in a new tab, while just Enter will open it in the current tab.

In Firefox, Cmd + L is still the URL bar shortcut. The search bar shortcut is Cmd + K, I believe.
 
search bar shortcut for Safari is "option-command-F". you can search for these shortcuts by typing a query into Help's search and it will point to the menu option and its shortcut.

im not sure if Safari automagically adds ".com" or ".org" etc but i have Open DNS which does this. to setup Open DNS have a look here.
