how do I add my "Word" icon to the tool bar at the bottom of my desktop so that I can just click on it to open Word? For some reason it just disappeared OR I did something wrong.

I believe when you see the "W" on the dock you can right click and say "leave on dock" or something like that.

apps appear in the Dock when they are opened. but if they arent "pinned" to the dock they will disappear when closed.

to permanently add an app to the dock add it when its closed or right click it on it in the dock and choose "Keep in Dock" while the app is open.

Thanks but the mouse I am using

doesn't have a right click or perhaps I am using it wrong. It's not like working on a PC. I will try to drag the app to the dock. Thanks.

Right-click on OSX = control+click

so right click on the dock when Word is open and choose "keep in Dock"

Simple

Solved the icon problem

I dragged the "word" icon into the desktop dock and it is now there - parked. Thanks.
