I've got some prospective freelance work coming my way, which involves removal of a boom in one shot, and a reflector in another. It looks relatively simple, and I was going to use either AE or Shake.

My client wants me to do a quote for this, but as I'm relatively new to vfx, I have no idea what to charge. Obviously, I'd like to be as competitive as possible, but what would be a general guideline? Anyone know?

It entirely depends on how long you think it will take to do.

Remember as well to charge for time when your suite is working but you're not, ie. rendering, mastering, burning to DVD.

I'd pitch in at £250 (around $500) per day ;)

Thanks for the advice. £250 is a nice guideline, and gives me a lot of scope to undercut. I just hope the client accepts it!

I usually charge £70 per hour for my post production work thats about the going rate at the moment.
