I'm using iMovie 08 for speed reasons to get some iPod videos done quickly. All of the archived footage I have is 4:3 aspect ratio and when I chose Share > export to Quicktime, the footage it being encoded at a 16:9 aspect ratio and cropped (eg. it isn't squashed, just has top and bottom cut).

I also notice that when the footage is imported it displays correctly as 4:3 in the thumbnails windows, but not in the playback window (again, it is 16:9 cropped)

Could anyone explain this. I can't see anything in the preferences regarding 4:3 material.
