Well, I was more than happy to see the newest Gran Tourismo Prologue as downloadable on the Greek PSN Store. I downloaded it, and I am now playing it. however, I must admit I have one major complaint: The interior of the car displays the steering wheel on the right of the car! In Greece (and most countries, I presume) we have it on the left!

I believe it would be fine if that game was released in the UK, but every other country has the steering wheel on the left! Is there any way of changing this?

EDIT: Also, when trying to download the update, I always get the message "an error occured during download". Does anyone else have this problem?

Japan drives right-handed cars. So does Australia. :)

That first one probably explains why the game is right-handed.

But this is greece. In Europe.

But the game is from Japan. In Asia.

I doubt they'd take the inordinate amount of time it would probably take to revise and release the game with left-handed models if they're still in the process of working on GT5 proper.

Or maybe there's an option for it somewhere. Who knows.

edit: It looks like cars have been replicated naturally according to their source country's policies. So British and Japanese and Australian cars will be right-hand drive, while American, German, etc will be left-hand drive.

Get used to it, I guess.

We can organize a boycott of the game to insist that they fix it. Maybe in the full GT5 it will be an option. If not, I do say we boycott....

This should be an easy matter of just flipping the model.

But they're trying to make the game and vehicles as authentic as possible right? So if you're driving a car that was originally released in Japan, why would it have a left-hand driver's seat? There's nothing to "fix" other than your own desire to have everything the way you want it to be done regardless of whether it's correct or not.

But a Japanese car released in the US has the wheel on the left side. It would be a different story if a car was only released in Japan and was included in GT5....then, it would make sense to have the wheel on the right side.

However, I guess it also depends on where the game takes place. If there is a track in England or Japan, then it would makes sense for the "non-imported" cars to have the wheel on the right side. If the track is in the USA or Greece, then it would makes sense for the non-imported (or localized) cars to have the wheel on the left side. Now THAT would be realism. :)

I think the assumption is that they are including all cars in their original, native form, unmodified for international use. And it's pretty common to ship, say, a Japanese RHD car to the Nurembergring to race/do testing. There's no need to change the handedness of the vehicle unless you're driving on public roads and national laws require it.

The best thing is to include an option for the steering wheel. That's the right thing to do. And since I live in a country where all cars have the steering wheel on the left, I want it on the left.

Actually, I bought a Ford Focus 2006 model. The steering wheel is on the right.

Well, I'm not sure what to tell you, then. Perhaps they're all RHD because Sony wants it that way. :D

I agree there should be an option, but I'm pretty sure that the fact that it's a Japanese game is probably the reason behind the RHD situation in the first place.

I agree... except that it is a videogame and people pay money for options (especially those of personal preference).

Wah.

Seriously. Wah. Boohoo.

A game that people love for it's authenticity is now getting on people's nerves for being too authentic?

I'd prefer if the cars could ram through walls and had spikes coming out of the tires to mess up other players...can that be in the options too?

I assume you still press left to turn left even with the wheel on the other side? So I guess you can still drive. Play the game. I've driven in both kinds of cars (odd that Cambodia which borders Thailand does the "US" way and Thailand does the "UK" way) and you shift the same and it's really not that big a deal.

An authentic game is authentic when it gives you an authentic experience. Such a mistake is a serious fault that hurts the game's authenticity, not adds to it. In Gran Tourismo 4 you could see the person behind the wheel, although there was not any cockpit view. That person was always on the left, at least in the version I had.

No, it can't. Gran Turismo is all about realism. I don't think there's more to say here, other than I want feature that adds to the games realism, which is the games purpose. The example you mention does not add to that.

You guessed right. However, the wheel on the right renders the cockpit view useless. It's a whole different experience. And the cockpit view is one of the most interesting additions in the newest Gran Turismo. And, unlike you, most people have driven only one type of car (either to the left or the right) and they are not used to those kinds of changes. Me included.

I didn't complain about the way Gran Turismo is built. I love it. I am asking those question because I want to know if it matters the fact that I downloaded the game (which could be a replica of the UK version which has the steering wheel on the right). I did this to verify that if I bought the game in Blu Ray in Greece it would be the exact same game.

I would also like to mention that in the game the Volkswagen golf has the steering wheel on the LEFT of the car. So does all Ferrari cars.

Seems to me that the game is not finished yet. I think they will add that option at a later date (or in the final Gran Turismo 5), it's just that they haven't finished making all the models yet.

I'm guessing you are a fan of the Twisted Metal series :D :D

the update took me ages to get. i know a lot of people are having this problem. the only solution i've heard of is to keep retrying the download. managed to get it yesterday after about 20 attempts. good luck

Gran Turismo is all about realism.

LOL...not really. Sure it has pretty graphics, but realism? Nah my friend. When they add realistic damage and handling effects from damage then we'll talk realism. Until then, Forza is all about realism. (don't get me wrong, Forza is not perfect, but it's as close as you'll get for now)

it's prolouge so it wont have all the cars. it's like a demo. also when the real thing comes out, it will be about where the cars came from not where you the consumer bought the game. the cars will be listed from countries. as all grand tourismo games have been. unless they are building the cars in your contry. then the cars will be left hand or right hand depending on where it was built.

the focus started in the uk. and the us model is completely different and under powered then the uk version. when gt5 comes out. the us version of the focus will be gimp. but it will be left hand drive.

Perhaps the grouchy one side only complainers on this thread can keep this demo handy in case they do some international traveling requiring car rentals.

That is if mom and dad aren't driving...

Does Forza have all the customizations a typical Gran Turismo game have? I don't think so. And realism is not all about crashing. Sure, when the licensing problems about car damage modelling are ironed out for Gran Turismo, the game will be better. But you can't defy Gran Turismo's physics in driving.

Such as what? Forza has a pretty deep customization system.

Forza is "pimp my ride" for the teenage male base that MS markets to. It is in no way anywhere near as realistic as GT. Polyphony digital makes the computer for the new Nissan Skyline GT-R's, they record all their cars engines at different rpms and situations, they model their cars using the real vehicles and their tolerances.

Forza is more of a arcade simulator, GT is a pure driving simulator. Saying Forza is more realistic than GT is fooling no one but yourself. ;)

Yes you can, the physics in pretty much all console 'simulations' are awful. If you want realistic physics, download Live for Speed or rFactor (with some decent mods) or even GP Legends for the PC.
