every time i do a software update...that requires a restart.....i ok it.

wait for the update......it's done....it starts to restart.....

then it's stuck on the PRE "apple with spinning cog" screen.

EVERY TIME....never happened with old white 24inch. just wondering.

also...when i restart on my own...it doesn't do it. when i hold the power button after it's been on a greyscreen.....and then power back up....it doesn't do it.

weird.
thanks.

Hello,

I recently had the same thing after applying Updates ( Time Machine and Airport, Safari 3.1, Security Update). My macBook simply won't boot even in safe mode. I Finally managed to have it fixed. I don't know if it would work for you but you can try what I did :

Boot in Single User Mode : ( Keep the keys Command + S pressed when booting).

Type :
fsck -fy
mount -uw /

update_dyld_shared_cache -force

sync
exit

if it doesn't work , try to post the verbose output when booting :
( Have the Keys Command + V pressed when you turn your iMac on), and post the messages you see.

hope this will help,

Roger

I get exactly the same thing on a 20" Intel iMac with Core (original Intel). Ever since Leopard every time there is an update it gets stuck on the spinny thing and I have to force power off and restart. After that it starts normally .

Anyone else?
