The iPhone Dev Team has officially released the Pwnage tool that uber-jailbreaks your iPod touch/iPhone. If anyone has tried this, let me know. I wont be able to get to a Mac any time soon, otherwise I'd do it and let you know.

They currently only have a MAC version, but a Windows version is coming within the next 24 hours.

I'd like to warn people that there is a possiblility of brickage with Pwnage... It replaces your firmware, and meddling with that directly can cause a bricked 'Pod...

Correct me if I am wrong.

Now, the developer wouldn't release something that has the chance of bricking... but if somethings goes wrong during the running of the application (power to computer dies, ipod get unplugged), there may be a possibility of brickage.

Again, correct me if I am wrong.

its tru that there is a possibility of bricking but only if you majorly do something wrong, for example i tried to install 2.0 that i found on warez and then ziphone it to run (what i was thinking i have no idea) but it started running in a continus loop of code, but a simple shut off and connect with the home button down fixed it. I have suspected that i bricked my ipod on may occasions but i never have and it works just as well as the day i got it. The chances of bricking are one in a google. But more that 3415435% of the time the quick fix is a simple restore mode and restore. Any questions eel free to ask ( i have messed up my ipod in every way possible so im sure i can help)

So, your saying you've tried pwnage?

Would you mind doing a mini-review for us?

Apple says there is NO possible way to brick your iPod Touch. I believe this because on MANY occasions my iPod has acted very funky and wouldn't do anything if I held down home and power, just power, home and power for 10 seconds, the only thing that worked was plugging it in to iTunes. I believe that there is no Possible way to brick your iPod so I wouldn't be too scared because you can always restore it.:apple::apple::apple::apple:

Check out my thread on how to create a repository for installer

If you want any apps for me to host on my source, just email me at ipodtouchpros@gmail.com

Ok I'm lost...
I have a mac and I already download the software...
But i just don't understand what is it for...?

Yes i have tried PWNAGE and i must say its obvious that its a new program, while it does allow the custom firware it shows a few bugs, for example when you rewrite the 1.1.4 for use with jailbreak, after you load it to you touch it lags and ocasionaly freezes (as it did when some users tried ziphone)
One thing it allowed was for me to use the 2.0 FW (sorry i cant give links) almost bug free (although i cannot use itunes store on it) but with the 2.0 FW i cannot add the installer. Zibri suposedly has a fix for this but he is watiting for 2.0 official release before giving such software to the public.
So unless you have a specific use for pwnage or you are UBER curious i would sugest holding off until developers make firmware that runs flawlessly, overall a great program though and it opens up MILLIONS of possibilities for touch and iphone users everwhere!

I see...
So what are the advantages of using FW 2.0 if you can't use the installer?
I guess we gonna have to wait...but yes, there is potential in this little great software...

I'm in 1.1.3...any advantages of using 1.1.4?

Thanks!

at this point there are no benefits for the 2.0 FW, i simply wanted to see if i could for it, im actually going back to 1.1.4 as we speak

Welcome to the club. Actually the more I fiddle around with different firmwares the more I see that 1.1.4 is actually a really great firmware for the touch. Even without the jailbreak it's realy useful.

I know one 2.0 is released I will be jailbreaking that, 2.0 simply isnt great now becuase since its still such a young beta, some developers such as zibri are not releasing their 2.0 JB software just yet even though he has claimed to have done it already. Not to mention with a 2.0 jailbroken imagine it. All the apps your used to and official apps from apple that will use every bit of you ipod's power.

Firmware Download

I will pwn my iPod touch once an iPod touch version is released (please tell me if Pwnage actually does work with iPhone and iTouch), but I'm still looking for the actual 1.1.4 firmware because I know you need a copy of the firmware to pwn it. Anybody know where I can find it?
Oh and BTW, it's "Mac" not "MAC"...

PWNAGE does work for the iPod Touch as well.

I dont see the reason to go to 2.0.... Nothing but novelty there...

Works Great

The Pwnage tool works great as long as you follow the instructions!! if you install the iphone firmware there is problems but i did mine (properly) and it works great.

Oh my god i hate it when people call it an iTouch, that pisses me off so bad. I paid $400 for this device now name it what its called!

Oh and BTW, it's "iPod touch". The "t" in touch isn't capitalized... just thought I'd throw that out there since we're being technical.

Just wonna know whats so good about 1.1.4, if its the best firmware for the Touch... I am still using 1.1.1 and its great for me!
