I'm this close to buying a new Mac Pro (probably go with the single quad-core processor) and a 23" Apple Cinema Display. The only thing holding me back is wondering when or if Apple is going to update the ACD.

Is there any reason to think they might announce an update at NAB the week after next?

I am going to purchase one to hook up to MBP, and then get a KB, mouse etc. save me buying a desktop.. much prefer having one machine.. so much easier...

MR buyers guide says its going to be updated.

We just got some new ones at work. They have a new picture on the box with Leopard. That's about it. I have one myself. It's alright. Better than my HP and way better than the Dell I used to have (older model) or the cheapy off brand I bought on sale from Costco. I like that it has a fw hub and haven't had any of the issues others have reported. Plus it looks cool and I got it used with my MP. If you must have one, go ahead and buy it. Who knows when a new one will come out. Not us.

The bottom line is that people have been waiting for an update for a while, but no one has a clue when it might happen... If you need/want one, I would just get it.

the 23" ACD's wont be updated untill 23/24" LED panels ared available, which wont be for a while, and wehen they do become available, they will come at a cost.

i had this same debate a couple of weeks ago, and bought one with my mac pro. I think in the end it came down to the fact that the apple care i bought applied to the monitor too! Furthermore, i really couldn't see what could be updated that would make me wait: possible HDMI, possible LED backlights, possible port changes?

In the end, i needed a good screen, and the acd i recieved had no dead pixels, great backlight, is super bright, is even, and without the pink hue we hear of all the time. And its colour is fantasticaly accurate.
