hey guys..okay so ive been using mail for a while and i only have one acct on there but that acct is connected to like 5 accts so i have a good couple thousand emails in there...i went to go rebuild the mailbox just to help try and speed the app up and b/c it was overdue but mail.app crashed in the middle of that

now i didnt lose any data but ever since my app has just been running slow..i type an email and halfway thru the sentence the colorwheel shows up...browsing mail same thing..its not crashing just running slower

any ideas?

Have you placed your mail in folders, or is it all in the inbox? If not, I would suggest creating folders and using rules to move old (and subsequent new) mail into them.

yah its all in the inbox

lemme try splitting them up

whats the difference between mailbox and smart mailbox?

Basically a regular mailbox is the same thing as a folder and actually 'contains' the mail that you move there by hand or via rules. A smart mailbox is defined by Apple as follows:

A Smart Mailbox displays in one location messages or to do items that are stored in other mailboxes, based on criteria you define, so you don’t have to physically move messages or to do items between mailboxes. For example, you might create a Smart Mailbox that displays all messages found in all mailboxes from a specific sender.

The is from the Mail help section. I use regular mailboxes. You can find the same concept in iTunes with regular playlists and smart playlists.
