I've had my MBP for almost a year now. 15", Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33Ghz, 2GB RAM.
It worked like a charm for the first couple of months, and then for no discernable reason started to lose speed. Activity Monitor showed nothing out of place (plenty of free space, low memory usage, low cpu usage) and Hardware checks were all fine. I thought I managed to sort it out after combing through everything (emptying caches, resetting prefs, getting rid of all superfluous startup progs, etc) as it ran well for about 2 weeks, then it started playing up again - for no reason I could see!
It came 'good' again a few times over the next few months but sometimes got to the point where it took about 3 minutes to load up. After a final period of working fine, flying along as it should, it completely **** itself in the middle of working on a song (I use it primarily for Logic and have very little else on it software wise) and refused to boot at all, hanging on the 'spinning wheel of death' for 5-10 minutes before switching to Terminal on screen and getting hung up on some startup process.
I got a professional Mac service guy to have a look as I was tearing my hair out at this point - we hooked up an external drive and backed everything up, formatted and reinstalled the OS (running 10.4.11). I made sure to install every soft and hard update from Mac before installing the rest of my software.
It worked fine again..for about 3 weeks. Then I installed Adobe CS3 and it has now just gone back to it's old tricks (sloooooow). I love my MBP but right now I'm wondering if it's worth it!
Should I demand a replacement before my 1 year is up???????? Or am I being a complete idiot and missing something here?
