US tax online?

hi i live in the UK but my Dad is taking a trip to america and stay with some friends there.

I want to buy a SLR and have it shipped to our friends in wisconsin and have my dad pick it up but i was wondering if tax is a consideration i need to think about (i know it's not listed in prices in shops... what happens when it's online?)

Well i would assume so as you are in the United States. I live in the UK. The tax is never listed in shops and therefore it wouldnt be listed online - taken for granted.

Taxes are charged online when the seller has a physical presence in the state sold to. There are a lot of exceptions to how this is handled, but the best way to find out is to order online up to the point of completing the transaction (but prior to actually charging the credit card) and seeing if tax is being applied (or not).

I'm not sure that you will be able to complete the transaction you described, but if you are, tax is usually only applied if the company one purchases from operates in the state that the item is being shipped to. Oftentimes, those taxes are legally still supposed to be paid, but since it is not charged at purchase many people never do.

I'm not 100% sure but if you're in the UK you won't be able to purchase a and ship any items from the US. I believe you have to make the purchase from a UK store.
