hi there, I install parallels 1st time on my new mac pro... I have some questions in mind.

by example on windows I can see by shared folder my mac files like pictures, music, movies, sites, etc... so I think if I get a virus on windows that destroy files, the virus can be delete all my mac files? SO SCARED THAT... I put disconect all shared folders.

Please anybody can tell me something about if any virus can destroy something in my mac by windows with parallels ?

thanks

Probably can't since the shared files are actually on the Mac. Those files are protected by the Mac's HFS+ filesystem and user permissions. Can anyone else back me up or am I blowing smoke?

Thats actually a good question? Im not really sure. I would assume if you can edit/delete the shared files by hand in Windows, that a Virus would be able to do the same thing.

I erase a file in windows of my music folder of mac... so if I can erase a simple file with delete... why not a virus can be delete all my HD!!! Panic... anybody know more about this situation of virus...

yeah I do that, and yeah why not a virus can be do that... panic!!!!!!!

Don't put any sensitive information in the shared folder you don't want deleted off the Mac. Or, you could set the permissions in OS X for the shared folder to read only. This way no one can write to it or delete it. Move your files in and out of it from within OS X. And then open within Parallels. Will that work?

I've not seen a virus that deletes user files since Windows 98.

Granted, I still wouldn't stick any important/sensitive files in the shared folder without adequate virus/spyware protection, but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. In 3 years of consumer-level PC repair, I've never had someone complain of a virus deleting files.
