When I'm on Amazon and looking at an album to try and decide what songs I like and such, I see options for Windows Media Player and Real Networks because the samples are not compatible with my iMac. I figured there must be a plugin or something that would allow me to listen to those songs and I downloaded the Windows one but when I open it I get a screen of gibberish text. I have stuffit installed and wondered if that is affecting anything with regard to the install?

If there is another plugin that will allow windows audio/video files to play, please... I'm open to suggestions.

What do you mean they "are not compatible with my iMac". To play the preview, you just click the little grey play button next to the song. You'll need the Adobe Flash Player installed ( http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ ) but, that is a web standard and I can't imagine you don't have it already.

If you download the files, instead of buying a physical album, they download as mp3 files - which you can play on any computer, Windows PC or Mac.

As for Windows Media files, Microsoft no longer is developing that format on the Mac. You'll have to download "Flip4Mac": http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm

For "Real Player" you can get that here: http://www.real.com/mac/realplayer?..._1_1_0_0_2_0&pcode=rn&opage=realhome_spmac_bb

I just downloaded and installed Flip4Mac per everyone's suggestion, went back to the amazon page and tried to play a sample. Didn't work. I'll keep messing with it, but it keeps sending me to MS's page to get a plugin which doesn't work. Do I have to re-start the machine to make sure it's working, or should I see a Flip4Mac icon somewheres that tells me it's functioning?

Can you post a link to what you mean? When I go to amazon, track previews are little grey buttons that use flash, not windows media or real player.

OK, here's a link:

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Paolo-Co...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1207572962&sr=1-1

Scroll down the page and you'll see that the two options for sampling music are Windows Media Player and RealPlayer.

As an aside... how do I know that Flip4Mac is properly installed and fully functional? I know that something is wrong here because I can't believe that Mac users can't easily sample music on Amazon.

Interesting that it doesn't work for me either on my iMac. I just installed Flid4Mac and get an error, same as you.
