While dragging a file from one location to another pressing spacebar over an application/folder/etc will open it to the screen.
so useful with importing things into photoshop/indesign/pages/etc.
This is necessary when an application will not accept something being dragged into it's dock icon but will let you drop into the body of your document.
Now a few questions: How on earth do I maneuver dialog boxes without the mouse? It is so frustrating that I can't seem to get the logic behind changing dialog item focus (if default is no, how do I get yes? esc cancels? enter is yes/no?) I feel like I should be able to tab through the focuses but NO GO!
Second, when moving files it so annoying that osx will halt the transfer if it encounters a problem such as duplicate file names. There should options to append filenames, etc., etc.. It's very confusing because if a transfer stops and it was a move function I'm left wondering what was moved, what wasn't. At a glance the results never seem consistent. Also, there's no easy way (diffMerge sucks for large folders .... it's crashed my MP 8-core numerous times) to append one folder onto another.
I'm a linux user so I can usually get around these using terminal but it's broken functionality that I really feel needs to be (or already is) implemented.
Third .... permissions nightmare. My application folder as an example has some applications that I brought over from MBP. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the permissions schema they use. Sometimes 1/2 files are locked, sometimes the directory is locked. Applying permissions to all enclosed does zero. What gives? Again, i can chmod my way through this but .... wtf.
I'm reluctant to even add this one ... but I'm yet to find a real workaround :
Fourth, spaces is broken and I need it. Is there a legitimate way to ensure spaces continues functioning all the time? In my use, I end up with windows in screen that are different from the origination screen thus rendering the dock icon useless. Spaces has become a necessity for my workflow but at the same time it's such an annoyance to have sift through the spaces looking for my window because it's hidden god knows where. Sometimes. it can't even be found and I have to force quit and restart .... MAJORLY frustrating with something like illustrator which won't auto-save.
