Time Machine playing nice

Has anyone found a work around or a little application or something that will allow for time machine and aperture to work at the same time without making gigantic backups? A little pop up that tells me that time machine wants to back up and I should quit aperture would even work for me.

Or should I just exclude aperture from the backup and use the vaults?
