I've heard that the 8600M GTs are suppose to run at 475/700 but at the same time Apple underclocks them. So by default, how fast do they run on a 15'' Penryn MBP with 512vram? With that, how about the 17'' Penryns?

I've already tried using NVIDIA monitor but it gives me dynamic readings because I think the GPU speeds are dependent on what you're doing.

Hi,

Can someone post how to change the clock speed so that it becomes faster?

Thanks

I haven't encountered any OCing program that works with Vista 32bit yet. Has anybody successfully OCed in Vista? and which gfx drivers did you use?

Does anybody know why I can't OC? I've tried everything from the 167s to the 169s and 174s and the OC programs can't OC.

It is always an unpleasant surprise to know that whatever videocard Apple puts into MacBook Pro, there is a high chance it is will be underclocked.

I dont see how using software to OC it would void your warranty. Also theres no proof that it was OC'd if its software

Grab the newest version of Rivatuner also. It does overclock. I have a 2.4 running at 525/770 no issues at all

there are a few reasons:
1. heat
2. battery life
3. possibly cooling and fan noise.

...where only the first reason you name actually makes sense.
Battery life does not play a role since no matter how high the GPU is clocked, it will downclock itself according to usage.
Regarding fan noise my MBP blasts off like a jet when doing CPU intensive tasks in OS X as well, so that doesn't really matter either.

I guess heat is an issue but when gaming in XP, it doesn't get hotter than 80 C, regardless of clocking it to normal speed or no via. AtiTool.
