I am a complete Mac newbie (coming from a loooooooooooooooong Windows background) and would kindly ask for a tool (free would be best) which handles zip, rar and other archives incl. archives split across multiple files.

It would be great if it also works as a "shell extension" meaning that you could possibly Ctrl-click an archive in finder and chose to unpack, etc.

Thanks for helping
Ralf

Zip files are handled by Finder, but what you want is UnRarX. It will associate its self with the .rar files on your system and easily handles the split files, often automatically.
