ATi Graphics card for G4

You don't have an ADC connector on the motherboard, right?
So a Radeon 9000 would give you one DVI port only. (if you do have ADC connection, then I would get the 9000 Pro with DVI and ADC).
A Radeon 8500 was a gr8 card at the time, if you can find one cheap, that'll be a good deal. (DVI and VGA)
Radeon 9800 Pro (DVI and VGA) is the best, but overkill IMHO.
So, if you really don't mind spending some money, get the 9800 Pro (that is the G4 edition {AGP 4x}, not for the G5!).
If you can find a really cheap 8500 that'll be the best deal IMHO.
BTW... was only talking about real "Mac" cards. Not flashed PC ones...

The 8500 was a nice as MacsRgr8 said, I had one in a Digital Audio G4 with an upgraded 800mhz CPU. Anyways another good card is the Geforce4 MX if you find the 64MB version. I am not sure about the prices but a 128mb GeForce4 Titanium would rock.
Though the 9800 is the best of the G4 cards I would say it would overpower your 450mhz CPU. You could always flash a PC card and use a Radeon x800xt or GeForce 7800GS

Every once in a while OWC (eshop.macsales.com) has Radeon 9600s for sale that will work with G4s. These are really nice cards as they are much cheaper than the 9800s but have the second best performance you can get in that machine.

For everything EXCEPT playing games and/or 3D rendering, more ram will give you a better/bigger performance boost for the money......
Granted, a better video card will help with speeding up the OS X GUI and such, but sawtooths have limited video potential anyways, by virtue of their 2x AGP slots

Alright. What about a 9500 (Pro or Original), although it may have to be flashed? I heard they were RARE in G4's, or something like that....
If you are considering flashing why not do a 9700Pro since you could probably get that for under $50. This 9700pro on ebay looks exactly like the one in the Mac Elite wiki.
But if you want to save a few dollars you could get this 9500pro. As for other card types any other 9500 I would steer clear of, the Pro's are much faster. Though the 9600pro/xt's are nice it is difficult to find on ebay used most all are new in box and overpriced. Most 9700's would be good. For slightly more than the price of the 9700 Pro you can get a 9800Pro/XT at 256MB or for $30-40 you can get a 128mb 9800 SE/Pro.
Note: The 9800 SE get about the same performance as a 9600Pro.

Whatever card you get make sure it has the 4 BGA RAM chips (they are square) it does not matter where so much where they are shaped just as long as they are not the rectangular ones.
Do not get cards with double the RAM chips or the slower rectangular chips

Coincidence. I bought a 9500 three days ago (only the fan looks different; it's gold), and now I'm trying to figure out how to flash it.
