After only 6 cycles, my battery health has already dropped to 98% on my brand new Penryn machine.

It was at 99% already when I first got it. I still get approximately 4-5 hours of work time before it reaches zero, but I like knowing I can squeeze out every tiny bit of battery power I can get out of this puppy.

Could I possible have a faulty battery or am I being paranoid?

I think you are fine. If that number keeps on falling constantly for a fairy short amount of time then you may want to worry. Now if you had 6 cycles it was at around 92 then that might be worrisome.

Did you let it run down to near 5% after the first full charge? This helps
calibrate the battery.

I did this on my ibook and the original battery is still ok after 4.5 years.

But my Macbook battery health is still 100% after 40 cycles. This is with a SR MB.

Calibrated twice in 3 months, with the first time being an improper calibration, but I still drained it and charged it, just didn't wait 5 hours.

i was just like you.
it goes up and down. tomorrow it may be back up at 100% the next day 97%. however, it will stay MOST of the time at the percentage that it is really at.
