Hello,

I was hoping someone here could recommend a program for me for converting DVDs to AVI format. I am looking to back up my DVD collection and also have the files conveniently on my new external hard drive so when I go on a trip I can put a few on my laptop. Ideally, this program would be free, but if you know of a good one that doesn't cost too much I'd be interested too.

Thanks for any help!

Oh, great, I actually already have Handbrake. I haven't used it much and didn't realize there was an AVI option. Thanks for the help.

Any suggestions on the settings for the video? I am looking to make files under 1GB, preferably about 700-800 mb. Should I just set the target size and let Handbrake do its work?

Also, I'm running it on a Mac, guess I didn't specify that.
