HDD going going Almost Gone

Wow, SMART was actually useful

Short lived HDD
I had the same problem when I purchased a brand new Sony Vaio UX, the HDD died almost immediatly, the replacement however till works perfectly after 2 years. You just got a faulty drive, it happens rarely, but it does happen.
I got the SSD MBA so I wouldn't have to worry about the HDD.

DO NOT USE your drive for ANYTHING except BACKUP.
BACKUP your MOST VALUABLE files FIRST.
You dont want to start a full backup, have it spend 30mins backing up 20GB of applications, then have it fail fatally just before backing up 10MB of your cashflow projections / tax returns / almost completed Great American Novel.

You're so right, in fact two days after I backed up my Vaio UX the HDD died for good.
I wouldnt risk it!
It could be a software error, but back it all up to be safe.
Take it to apple, and they will hook you up with a new drive, or maybe (just cross your fingers) a new MBA!
That's very cool you got that warning, I go no such warning and my Air's HD just failed. The "genius" at the apple store spent 30 minutes insisting it was a software problems until someone from the back room did the diagnostic and realized the drive failed.
I wouldn't risk it. It's in warranty, so sure, let them give you a fresh one. Backup your stuff now!!!
