Itunes Sound Problem

In the past couple days, my iTunes has started to act up. Every once in a while, it just stops playing the sound, and when I check to see if the volume is right (pressing the volume control on my keyboard) the volume level shows up grayed out with a little stop sign thing (circle with a diagonal line) beneath it. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It happens with purchased songs and other songs, fyi.

7.6.2.. maybe? It got a temporary reprieve using the garageband trick.. only to come back with a vengance. Google "resolving sound problems on your mac".. it seems to have something to do with MIDI frequencies and third-party apps installed.

do you have twitter installed? the odd thing was that everything was hunky dory until it wasn't. (literally put it to sleep and woke it up and things weren't happy.)
