Help booting from leopard image on HDD

I created an image of my leopard install dvd, and am trying to restore the image on an external hard drive and then install leopard on the same hard drive, different partition.

But I get this error once the image is restored, and I click the OS X Installer:

"The application 'Install Mac OS X' cannot be used from this volume. To install Mac OS X, please use the application provided on the Mac OS X installation disc."

What's the dillio?
