Mac OS X
2.2cm (1 inch thick)
Other stuff like LED Screen, multitouch, slot load.

Macbook Pro £1750
Alienware £1750

Alienware has a slightly better graphics card, however is 2 freaking inches thick, ugly, and made from plastic, the macbook pro is an aluminum alloy. Macbook Pro is also faster and using newer processors.

Overall, Macbook Pro wins.
 
Thin performance laptop vs. monster gaming laptop?

It's not the first time it has been done here and Alienware has been rather slow to get updated components of late as well.
 
maybe because Dell = Alienware?

Why would they come here if they were considering an alienware?

Anyone who is considering an alienware needs to be hit in the head anyway. What a waste of money.
 
What's the point of doing this as a qualitative analysis? If you weighing it on the form factor then the decision has already been made..

An alienware is no different than other vista laptop with the same specs.

Apples run Mac OS X, and you can't get that anywhere else.
 
when I configure the alienware on their website with those specs you listed, It comes out around $2000

thank you for setting back the apple community a good ten years, along with re-affirming the notion that mac users are ridiculously biased :rolleyes:

Owned! I agree, this isn't a proper comparison, and is the 8700GT even that good? Because that is the only thing I see that justifies the extra size. But man more than 2x thicker really is bad.
 
Definitely go with the MacBook Pro. The aluminum alloy case is enough to sway me to buy a MAC. I personally care more about the build quality of the case, the LCD, and the keyboard than anything else on a laptop. The hardware specs come a distant second. If you want to game then buy the MacBook Pro and then build a PC desktop. You can even buy yourself a nice Lian-Li silver aluminum V series case that matches your MBP. To me gaming on a laptop has always been a PITA.

I tried as well but with the UK sites which the OP used.

Alienware: £1536.90
Apple: £1828.99

The price of £1750 is even less than the price of an unmodified MBP 17" which is £1799.

Maybe I got something wrong though.
