Apple Wireless Mouse. Not Mighty Mouse.

I just bought a wireless mouse from craigslist. 35 bucks. seems to be in ok condition. Its not the mighty mouse but w.e. It doesnt have the scroll ball, but it has the side buttons. how do i program the side buttons. nothing shows up in my mouse settings. also it rubs not slides against stuff. it has so much resistance. anything i can do? im thinking i shoulda just sprung the extra $$ for a mighty mouse. any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

for $35 you should have just gotten a new mighty mouse but whatever.

Yeah those "side buttons" are really just places to put your thumb and fingers, they don't have any function except not moving while the rest of the mouse does when clicked. They weren't implemented as buttons until the mighty mouse was introduced.
