yahoo mail to iPhone Mail but not Leopard Mail

Why is it I can read my Yahoo emails from my free Yahoo account via my iPhone, but I can't access the same emails via the Mail program on my Mac? Yahoo says I have to pay for Mail Plus which is $20/year. What's the difference?
 
The difference is that they need your money to fend off a Microsoft hostile takeover :)

Seriously there is no real technical reason, its all POP3 access. I believer Yahoo had a special thing going with Apple for the phone.
 
I have the free Yahoo mail account. I can send and receive all of my Yahoo mail on Leopard Mail app. I was shocked that I was able to do it for free. When I added the account, I just entered my email address. Then I checked the box to setup automatically and it worked. I was pleasantly surprised.
