Dear all,

In the last 3 weeks, my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.2 + latest updates) has started indexing my internal harddrive twice without me telling it to do so. Hard Drive Utility tells me everything is ok with the drive, I did not reformat / reinstall Leopard on it, no crazy 3rd party system maintainance software running...

How did this happen? And, more importantly - can I do something to prevent this from happening next week? I'd appreciate any suggestions...

Try removing your Spotlight preference file com.apple.spotlight.plist from the Preferences folder, and then let it reindex overnight. Hopefully it'll only have to do it that once. :)

Thank you.

I deleted that file (in ~/Library/Preferences) and restarted. However, the spotlight database did not rebuilt itself automatically, and there is a new file in place. Am I missing something?

But maybe that was enough already. If I do not post back here, this has solved it for me eventually...
