Custom icons + flash media cards...possible?

Hello all --

So, If I 'get info' my XD or CF card and switch to a custom icon, it works great. When I format the card, the icon goes back to default. I'm assuming this is because the icon is stored on the card itself...is there a way around this -- to say, assign a new icon for a certain type of flash media card, removable, etc?
