After 26 days of using an iPhone I would love to be able to...

I have had my iPhone for 26 days and every idea of how I thought it could be improved has been written in a note on the device, now I want to bring you the following list (currently of 34 improvements) in an effort to spark off developers creativity. Here is what I have so far...

  • Notes sync with google docs
  • Flash and java support
  • Controller / media browser 4 macs / apple tvs
  • Better gmail application staring etc
  • Good RRS application - mobile google reader sucks
  • WiFi syncing to mac
  • VPN login / screen control
  • Numbers / pages / keynote doc support
  • Text recognition from photographed text documents
  • Video recording from camera
  • MMS messaging
  • Pinch zoom in live on camera
  • Dictaphone functionality / recording
  • Old Nintendo / SNES / N64 / PSP games with motion sensor controls
  • Ability to subscribe to podcasts on the fly
  • Editable auto correct dictionary
  • Custom sounds / tones
  • Ability to email / Bluetooth contact / group information to other phones
  • Date as well as time at the top bar
  • Cool way to copy n paste n select text
  • Way to auto add Facebook friends to my address book (copies their numbers and email addresses etc.)
  • Open all tabs on mac in a new safari window wirelessly on my mac when in range
  • Mac remote iTunes browser / controller / remote
  • BBC radio player
  • Converter application like the widget
  • Organize photo library on phone and auto sync to iphoto - all photos going into the one "camera rol"l is stupid
  • Firefox - cos I'm pro choice LOL
  • Email anything from contact groups to maps
  • History states for notes
  • TV remote control capabilities like those Creative Harmony Remotes
  • Edit google docs on the iPhone
  • Ability to create / manage an iPhone based wifi network
  • Wireless printing of notes / maps / contacts / webpages etc when connected to home network with a printer
  • Music streaming / iTunes control of airtunes enabled speakers
  • Ability to fully browse and star rate my photos in iPhoto / Aperture / Lightroom that are on my mac when connected to the same home wireless network

Discussion of these items is strongly encouraged and I would love to read any additional suggestions, I am always happy to add to this list of functionality that is missing from current software / hardware.

What features would you like to see on the iPhone?
 
Good list!! I'm sure you've already read that you can have custom tones/sounds on your phone. Just takes a lil bit of work! ;)

I am not prepared to Jailbreak my phone. It doesn't interest me to hack the device, I want something that works without hassle - this is what I have come to expect from owning Apple products.

That's number six - "Wifi syncing to Mac" but thanks for reading it anyway lol (I guess I didn't make that point too clear - sorry)

* Flash and java support - Why do you need flash support? Flash would be useless on the iPhone basically, and Steve himself already said they aren't interested at this time. Java on the other hand is being worked on. That news came straight from sun
* Controller / media browser 4 macs / apple tvs - 1) This is a phone. 2) Some of that can be done if you Jailbreak it
* Better gmail application staring etc - Use the built in mail
* Good RRS application - mobile google reader sucks - Jailbreak
* WiFi syncing to mac - Jailbreak

* Editable auto correct dictionary - You can do that already. Just keep typing a word on how you want it
* Custom sounds / tones - You can buy songs from iTunes, but if that isn't good enough, you can SSH songs over for free (Jailbreak)
* Ability to email / Bluetooth contact / group information to other phones - Laptop..
* Date as well as time at the top bar - The calender app says the date and the day of the week. What else do you need...?
* Cool way to copy n paste n select text
* Way to auto add Facebook friends to my address book (copies their numbers and email addresses etc.) - That has to do with Facebook)
* Open all tabs on mac in a new safari window wirelessly on my mac when in range - Why..
* Mac remote iTunes browser / controller / remote - Jailbreak

You sound extremely picky. You could of done some research before compiling this list as well. Some of those are pointless on the iPhone. If you really want to do that, just sell your iPhone and buy a laptop with a wireless 3G card, because it sounds like you're expecting the iPhone to do everything and then some.
 
When the iPhone first came out and the news was the iPhone wouldn't have flash, people really wanted it, including me even. Using the iPhone for months, i know why there isn't flash on the iPhone. I think Flash is completely useless too, unless you want to pretty up a website. Most sites also butcher flash up to, and make it laggy even on computers. Plus, no ads.

That's an apologist's argument. Flash doesn't lag websites if it's done properly.

Flash would be useful to have, let's not kid ourselves.

How is that childish...? If Flash is useful to have, then what websites do you visit frequently that need flash.




And guess what; in the 10 months i have had my iPhone, i've never needed flash.

When im on EDGE, YouTube alone doesn't have great quality. Why would i watch more movies on EDGE on my phone?
 
Why does everyone need to jump down this guy's throat? It's a list of his wants for his iPhone. If you don't agree, who the hell cares? The iPhone is far from being perfect. I wouldn't even say its the best phone out there! I love mine, but I'm sick of not having pictures turn out well cause the lighting isn't PERFECT. I'm sick of not being able to send MMS messages. I'm sick of not being able to record a freakin' video for God's sake!

Stop limiting his imagination. I think that over 80% of the things on his list will happen when the App Store comes out in June.
 
What's been said has been said though. It's great he compiled a list, but all of those have already been suggested. If he really wants some of those, he should consider just buying a laptop to take everywhere.

I'm pretty sure i speak for the majority. All the people i know personally with iPhones, and reading these forums since the day the iPhone came out, others agree. But like i said, Flash isn't coming to the iPhone anytime soon.
 
I'm afraid even Apple can't push a sausage through a keyhole. It can't be done. Too much for a phone.

Wait a minute, aren't adobe making a version of flash especially for the iphone?

Thank you, I love my iPhone and it is the best Apple product I have ever purchased (after my beloved MacBook Pro of course). After years off owning Nokia's and wondering if I will ever be able to have the internet in my pocket I do, and that is wonderful.

I wrote this list as things came into my head - the "wouldn't it be great if I could" type thing. It wasn't intended to be a must have list, simply to give any app developers some more ideas and hopefully get other forum members adding to my list. Maybe we could get the "top 100 things MacRumors members want the iPhone to do" list?

* To-Do application with synchronization with Outlook.
* Notes synchronization with Outlook.

...and don't say "Jailbreak it" to me either. This is pretty standard stuff that should be supported, IMO.

And when the 800 kb/sec 3G iPhone comes out you will still not be able to watch a NEWS report (not movie) on your iPhone.

As I said - not all web video are YouTube.
 
I've been online in one way or another for 35 years.
The most useless, annoying and self-centered response on any forum is...

"I don't need that feature, so why talk about it"

A much more understandable answer is...

"I don't need and don't want to pay for that feature"

But if a feature or application won't cost you anything unless you buy it, why worry?
